Victoria Chesapeake comes from a known line of superheroes,
but suffered from the fact she was born Normal. Actually, her father Loftus
operating out of Washington DC suffered from that fact: Victoria had a
relatively easy-going childhood. However, under constant pressure from
her father, she finally agreed at the age of 17 to taking radical 'surgery'
to activate dormant genes in her DNA.
In the process she suffered for two months of agony as her body altered
and reshaped itself. When she garnered her powers she then suddenly found
herself under new pressures from her father, who now sought to make her
a part of his DC supergroup the Metro Elite. Angered from the months of
agony, Victoria refused. The shatter moment in her life came when she
investigated her origin and found that the Crey Corporation was involved,
using DNA materials stolen from a missing superhero she then learned had
been killed by Crey.
Betrayed, she reported her father's involvement and broke off all family
ties. Found blameless in the ensuing scandal, Victoria moved to Paragon
City to confront Crey directly and to spite Loftus by proving herself
on her own terms.
Vectura's life turned for the worse when, at Level 36, she finally came
in contact with Countess Crey herself in Founders Falls. In an uncontrolled
rage Vectura attacked, only to find the Countess laughing off her assault
and quickly wounding Vectura in a matter of seconds. Crey, it was discovered,
always designs 'fail-safes' into their 'experiments' to ensure total control
of the persons altered by the corporation's technology. Countess Crey
used that fail-safe to infect Vectura with a virus that sapped her artificially
enhanced powers, and left Vectura for dead.
Vectura's allies, however, discovered her body and took her with seconds
to spare to Numina, who used her powers to heal Vectura back to full health.
In the process of purging Victoria's body of the life-threatening virus,
Numina was also able to remove the implanted DNA and discovered that Vectura's
TRUE powers had been unlocked by the near-death experience.
Now, with her true powers given to her, and freed of the burden of guilt
that Countess Crey and her corporation inflicted upon her, Vectura fights
once again. Vectura still sought a rematch and repayment with Countess
Crey, a quest that culminated in her greatest
victory...
